the 5th day of our korea trip. we planned to visit the gyeongbokgung (royal palace) with my middle school classmate (she currently lives in seoul). and originally we were gonna go to tosokchon for their ginseng chicken soup before meeting up with my friend, but we headed out kinda late so i decided to eat at a korean chinese restaurant near by our hotel. (we passed by it a few times when we go out, and it's just too hard to missed coz you rarely see chinese language in korea lol).

korean style jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) was one of the many dishes i wanted to try as well, (there're like 800 stuff i wanna try from my "to-eat-list" so it's really easy to pick one substitute when situation like this happened lol)
mr. liao was ok with jajangmyeon, so we happily went upstairs to this tiny little chinese cuisine place.

the owner gave us the chinese menu when she noticed we don't speak korean. it was only around 10am in the morning, we weren't really hungry.. but i was afraid it's not polite to just order 1 dish + i heard you have to eat jajangmyeon with tangsuyuk (sweet & sour pork), so we ordered 1 noodles & 1 pork dish. then joyfully anticipating for the food to come like a kid~

(drums rolling...) here's the black bean noodles~!!  it was black indeed lol. it was steaming hot when i stirred it up altogether...  it tastes very different from chinese one! the korean version only has onions & ground meats inside the sauce, but the taste was very special. the sauce is called 춘장 (korean black bean paste). i like it alot!! and the yellow radish goes perfect with the noodles~

the portion of sweet & sour pork was huge! we were kinda shocked when it came out...lol
the pork slices were covered in thick flour paste then deep fried, then the sweet and sour sauce were pour on. the vinegar smell was strong but it tasted really good! and i eat it with the uncooked onions. it kinda ease the oily taste of fried food, and add another spicy spark. loved it!

many people go to some particular famous chinese restaurants when they visit korea. but personally i think you can just go to whatever one on the street, and it'll taste good with cheaper price! like this one we went. there were other customers coming while we were eating.. a lot of them were regulars. and i also saw a few grandpas came alone and they just order a bowl of noodles and enjoy their times with newspaper & chat with the owners. i thought it was very cute & warm.

throughout this trip we mostly went to the restaurants with good reviews (which i did my research), but i feel like it's also fun to just go to a random place that you walked by, it might just surprises you (in a good way) and without all the tourists you can actually experience the real korean culture.  : )

after our brunch, we took metro to gyeongbokgung station. and we passed by this "seoul metro art museum" inside the station. i believe they change the exhibition regularly, and it was showcasing some design works from the media design department of yong in university. being a designer ourselves, we can't help but stopped and looked through all the artworks... some of them were really good!

i really adore the city, seoul. one of the reason is that they actually see "art & design" as an important element to their society. i feel like everywhere in seoul has some design elements to it, but at the same time they still possess the side of traditions. it's just so beautiful.
